The Mt. Bethel boys are making a big splash in their first season of competition in the Georgia High School Association.

The team has won the Warrior Invitational in Cleveland and the North Gwinnett Invitational, but came through with a huge trophy last week when the claimed the prestigious High School Invitational at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

The win at the Athletic Club not only came on the same hallowed ground that has hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur and PGA Championship, it came over a difficult field that included multiple state champions and many of this year’s contenders.

Mt. Bethel battled cold and windy temperatures at the Athletic Cub to score a (221) and beat Charlotte Catholic by nine shots.

Three freshmen led the Mount Bethel charge. Maxwell Ford shot a 72 and was medalist, while his twin brother David shot a 74. Freshman John Ostergard shot 86 and senior Wesley Heston added a 75.

Johns Creek finished third at 233, with Nic Cassidy shooting 74 and Andy Mao adding a 78. Lambert got a 75 from Mitchell Taylor and a 76 from Myles Jones to finish fourth at 233. Mill Creek’s Luka Karaulic shot 74, good for third place, and J.T. Smith added a 77 for the fourth-place Hawks.

Luke Dasher of First Presbyterian Day in Macon finished second among individuals with a 73.

Huynh wins Girls Invitational

Thienna Huynh shot 76 to win the Girls Invitational at the Atlanta Athletic Club. The tournament was an individual competition contested on the club’s Riverside Course, which hosted a U.S. Women’s Open.

Ainsley Cowart and Ayanna Habeel each shot 77, with Cowart being awarded second place.

Kimberly Shen and Skylar Thompson of Buford shot 79 and Charli York and Loralie Cowart each shot 80.
