Johns Creek led a strong field of teams from Georgia that dominated the 17th annual Georgia-South Carolina Cup at Planterra Ridge Golf Club in Peachtree City.
Johns Creek finished at 16-over 592 and won the team competition by 13 shots ahead of Starr’s Mill and Westminster, who tied for second.
Bishop England was the top South Carolina finisher, finishing fourth at 32 over. Other top Georgia teams were: St. Pius in fifth, Carrollton in seventh and Creekview in eighth.
Johns Creek was led by the foursome of Preston Topper, Andy Mao, Bruce Murphy and Deven Patel. Each member of the group broke 80 in every round. Topper had rounds of 72-73 and finished third overall. Patel was eighth with 74-73 and Mao tied for ninth at 74-74.
The medalist was South Carolina’s Zach Reuland, who shot 70-70 and finished two shots ahead of Luke Phillips from Starr’s Mill, who had a 72-70.
Starr’s Mill also got stellar play from Kyle Bachkosky (who tied for fourth after rounds of 74-72), George Langham and Mason Mayfield. Westminster was led by Sam Lape (who tied for fourth after rounds of 72-74), David Dickey, Walker McPhail, William Love and Cole Bergman.
Rivers Academy wins Nelson Invitational: Sophomore David Ford shot a 6-under 66 to lead Rivers Academy to victory in the Larry Nelson Invitational at Atlanta Country Club. Maxwell Ford and Will Morlan of Rivers tied for second with 71. Rivers posted a 282 team score to defeat Walton (301) and Westminster (304).
Dalton wins Apple Mountain Invitational: The Dalton boys got balanced scoring and won the annual tournament in Clarksville. Carter Pendley (70), Wyatt Brackett (72), Ethan Day (74) and Davison Reynolds (75) led the Catamounts. Gainesville was second at 298, with Ryan Davidson pacing the Red Elephants with a 67. North Gwinnett was third and North Forsyth took fourth.
Etc: Ty Hudson of Pinewood Christian Academy won the Metter Invitational with a 68 and helped his team finish second.
