Friday wrap: Champs crowned, draw is set

Congrats to newly crowned region champs - Colquitt County, Newton, Westlake, McEachern, Roswell, South Forsyth, Mill Creek and Grayson.

Also congrats to teams that got in the playoffs with clutch wins Friday - Lowndes, Wheeler, Northview and Parkview. Also congrats to North Paulding, which made it at 3-7 after Marietta upset Harrison, opening the door.

Region 1

-No. 1 Colquitt County (10-0) won a game between unbeaten teams and clinched the region with a 33-14 victory over No. 8 Camden County (9-1). Colquitt trailed 14-6 in the first half. Valdosta (7-3) beat Lee County, and Lowndes (6-4) beat Tift County in games that settled No. 3 and No. 4.

Region 2

-Newton (8-2) clinched its first region title since 1987 by beating Rockdale County 42-0, as expected.

Seeds - #1 Newton, #2 Tucker, #3 Lovejoy, #4 Lakeside

Region 3

-Newnan (8-2) beat Hughes 14-0 in the best game of the night, but Westlake (8-2) won the region again.

Seeds - #1 Westlake, #2 Newnan, #3 Hughes, #4 East Coweta

Region 4

-McEachern (9-1) beat Hillgrove 37-17 in a game that decided the No. 1 seed. Marietta (3-7) upset Harrison 17-13, knocking out the Hoyas and opening the door for North Paulding (3-7, 3-3) to sneak in.

Region 5

-Third-ranked Roswell (10-0) won its first region title since 2010 with a 24-7 victory over No. 10 Etowah (8-2) in 5-AAAAAA. Roswell is 10-0 for the first time since 1985. Wheeler (5-5) beat Lassiter 35-14 to get the No. 4 seed. That will be Wheeler’s second playoff appearance in 10 seasons, first since 2012.

Region 6

-South Forsyth (9-1) won its first region title (6-AAAAAA) since 1997 with a 31-6 victory over Lambert  (8-2). Northview (6-4) beat Centennial 42-35 for the final playoff berth.

Seeds - #1 South Forsyth, #2 Lambert, #3 West Forsyth, #4 Northview

Region 7

-No. 5 Mill Creek beat No. 6 Peachtree Ridge 20-17 in overtime. The victory gives Mill Creek, which opened in 2004, its first region championship and 10-0 regular season in its history. Collins Hill beat Norcross 13-9 to decide No. 3 and No. 4.

Region 8

-Parkview blocked a 50-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds and beat Dacula 13-11 to get the final playoff berth. Parkview finished tied with Brookwood and Dacula, but defeated both.
