Mill Creek and Rabun County last week became the first teams this season to shut out three consecutive opponents. A three-game shutout streak is becoming rare. It happened only eight times last season, three times in 2013. In the 1960s, there were 318 - an average of 31.8 per seasons. A four-game shutout streak would allow Mill Creek or Rabun County to join a group of 39 teams that have achieved them since 2000. The state record of 11 is shared by 1985 West Rome and 1975 Americus. Dublin's eight-game shutout streak in 2005 - ruined by a field goal in a 63-3 victory or it would've been 10 - is the longest since 1985.

Six soldiers were honored, each receiving Meritorious Service Medals, Thursday for heroic actions responding to the shooting at Fort Stewart. “One of the things I can say unequivocally is that the fast action of these soldiers — under stress and under trauma and under fire — absolutely saved lives from being lost,” U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll told reporters as the six soldiers stood near him Thursday. “They are everything that is good about this nation.” (Hyosub Shin/AJC)
