Brandon Robinson was an ESPN100 national recruit as a junior, but the Douglas County guard has taken his game to a new level for his final high school season. Robinson is averaging 26.2 points – up from 9.4 last season – in leading the ninth-ranked Tigers to a 9-4 start.

Robinson, a 6-foot-5, 170-pound combo guard, is the consensus No. 3 senior recruit in Georgia. He has signed with North Carolina.

‘’He’s always been a really good player, but he’s seeing the floor really well, and he’s gotten bigger, better stronger,’’ said Douglas County coach Hollis Bethea. ‘’He understands what teams are trying to do to him and making adjustments.’’

The 2014-15 Douglas County team had other scoring options at guard that have graduated, so it was expect that Robinson’s points would go up, but his sheer improvement can be seen in his 3-point shooting. A year ago, he was 22-for-82 for the season. As a senior, he’s made 43 of 88 in 13 games. He’s made six 3’s in a game twice and was 6-of-7 against McIntosh earlier this season.

‘’A lot of people know he can shoot, but he also can drive and shoot off the dribble, and he can run the point,’’ Bethea said. “That’s what makes him hard to stop, if you take one thing away, he can go to something else.’’

Robinson also leads his team in rebounding (4.5) and assists (3.6). And he's a good student (3.8 GPA). ''He’s one of those players that come around once every decade or something,'' Bethea said. "Really intelligent, and a great kid on and off the court.''

Keep an eye on Robinson and Douglas County this week. They have some tough games ahead.

Here's something I wrote earlier for the AJC's print edition about upcoming games:

-Region 3-AAAAAA will see some shuffling among state-ranked boys teams this week as No. 9 Douglas County (9-4, 4-1) plays at No. 4 Westlake (7-2, 2-0) on Tuesday and then at No. 7 Pebblebrook (9-6, 5-0) on Friday. Key players on those teams are Douglas County’s Brandon Robinson (North Carolina), Pebblebrook’s Jared Harper (Auburn) and Westlake’s trio of Michael Durr, Daniel Lewis and James Lewis, all major Division I recruits.

-Shiloh’s boys basketball team is ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAAA after a 9-2 start that includes a championship at last week’s Farm Bureau Insurance Classic in Roebuck, S.C. Now, it’s time for the Generals to make headway in 8-AAAAAA, one of the state’s deepest regions.

Shiloh (9-2, 3-0) will play at Brookwood (10-3, 3-2) on Wednesday and at Grayson (12-1, 3-1) on Friday. Another big game in the region has No. 8 Dacula (10-2, 3-2) at Grayson on Tuesday.

Led by guards Josh Okogie (committed to Georgia Tech) and guard Darnell Rogers (George Washington), Shiloh has lost only to out-of-state opponents this season. Shiloh has a victory over 2015 AAAAAA runner-up Pebblebrook, the only Georgia team to beat the Generals last season.

-Tift County's boys (13-1) play in the All-Star sugar bowl National Prep Classic in New Orleans for three games beginning Thursday.

-The best non-region boys game this week will have Tucker (9-4) at No. 6 McEachern (10-2) in AAAAAA on Saturday.

-A pair of girls games tonight (Tuesday) match ranked teams: No. 9 Parkview plays at No. 2 Archer (AAAAAA), and No. 6 Douglas County at No. 10 Westlake (AAAAAA).
