Former Georgia Tech tennis player Irina Falconi has advanced to the third round of the French Open after her second-round win Thursday over Sesil Karatantcheva.

It is the first time into the round of 32 in Paris for Falconi, who played at Tech 2008 through 2010 before turning professional. Falconi is ranked No. 85 in the world. Her best result at a Grand Slam event prior to the French was a third-round appearance in the 2011 U.S. Open.

She will play Julia Goerges of Germany in the third round. The match had not yet been scheduled prior to the end of play Friday.
