With Hurricane Irma closing in, the Georgia Department of Transportation will suspend construction-related lane closures on interstates and secondary routes south of I-20 beginning Friday.

The suspension will last from noon Friday to 7 p.m. Tuesday. GDOT cited anticipated traffic congestion from Florida and Georgia residents fleeing the hurricane.

GDOT advises anyone who needs information about current road conditions to visit www.511.org or call 511. For roadway information and evacuation routes, visit www.dot.ga.gov.
