Unlike defensive lineman Michael Bennett, the Falcons don’t really need Richard Sherman, who was released by Seattle on Friday.

Sherman, who was never fast and was starting to grab receivers’ jerseys a bit too much, would be coming off Achilles surgery. He does know the defense, and there is a connection with Falcons coach Dan Quinn.

The Falcons also lost cornerback Jalen Collins, a former second-round pick, last season.

Sherman would be added for depth. He likely could play elsewhere and get a more lucrative deal.
