Delta resumes New York-Brussels flights

Delta Air Lines has restarted its New York-Brussels flights, with the arrival this morning of Delta's first flight to Brussels since the March 22 terrorist attacks in the Belgian capital.

Delta has suspended its Atlanta-Brussels flights until March 2017, while resuming its route from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport to Brussels. The airline is re-accommodating customers who had Atlanta-Brussels flight bookings on other flights operated by Delta or its joint venture partners Air France and KLM.

The New York-Brussels flight carried passengers as well as thousands of origami hearts folded by Delta employees. The origami hearts, some with messages written inside, will be displayed at a makeshift memorial site in Brussels.

Departing passengers will use temporary structures built at the Brussels airport, while parts of the main terminal remain damaged from the bombings.

Due to heightened security, Delta is advising passengers departing Brussels arrive very early, opening check-in four hours before the departure time.
