WEDNESDAY’S WEATHER: Another humid day with scattered showers, storms

The humidity and pervasive cloud cover are making these daily showers and storms hard to shake, and Wednesday will be another wet day for North Georgia.

According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon, there is a 30% chance of a shower during the Wednesday morning commute, and that chance increases to 40% for the drive home. Most of the early showers are falling to the south of metro Atlanta.

“I do think that throughout much of the morning hours, we’re going to keep it on the drier side,” Deon said. “It’s going to be just around lunchtime when we could start to see a few spotty, light rain showers popping up. Now, there could be some heavier downpours with any storms that develop.”

Deon does not expect thunderstorm activity to really ramp up until around 3 p.m., but it will continue all the way through the evening drive.

“After lunch, into the evening commute, that’s when we’re going to see those scattered showers and storms firing up, and that’s going to slow you down,” she said. “Not only will you have to deal with the traffic, but also maybe some wet and stormy conditions as storms will develop.”

Atlanta should see a mix of sun and clouds Wednesday with a 40% chance of scattered rain and storms by the afternoon, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon.

In between the rain, Deon expects a mix of clouds and sunshine that will allow temperatures to rise into the mid-80s. Atlanta’s projected high is 85 degrees, which is still three degrees below average for this time of year.

The wet weather this week can be chalked up to a frontal boundary that has stalled across the area. Deon said it is pulling in lots of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, and the weather system is not going anywhere Wednesday.

Or Thursday, for that matter. North Georgia should start off with some cloud cover Thursday morning before showers start to move in from the south and west, Deon said.

“The morning drive on Thursday could be a little bit messier,” she said. “Most of the rain that falls on Thursday I think will come early in the day, and then we will see a little bit more of a lull during the late part of the afternoon and and evening.”

After a 60% chance of a shower Thursday, the rain chance drops back to 40% for Friday, according to the latest forecast. The weekend is looking slightly drier and warmer with a 30% chance of rain in the forecast each day, and highs in the upper 80s.

“Keep that umbrella handy,” Deon said.
