TUESDAY’S WEATHER: Unseasonably warm as high humidity takes hold
It could feel like 90 degrees outside Tuesday when the sun is high in the sky and temperatures hit their peaks.
Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said North Georgia has high humidity to thank for the summertime feel this week. With no rain expected during the daylight hours, there should be nothing to stand in the way of rising temperatures.
“The warm and humid air stays with us today, tomorrow, on into Thursday as well,” Monahan said. “Highs are going to be in the mid- to upper 80s. It’s going to feel even hotter with that humidity.”
Atlanta’s projected high Tuesday is 87 degrees, which is well above the average highs in the upper 70s the city typically sees this time of year. The day is off to a warm start with lows in the mid-60s.
While the humidity is out in force Tuesday morning, Monahan said there is no rain to contend with for the morning drive to work and school. It should stay dry for the drive home, but it will be warm out there as heat indexes rise, and pavement temperatures could be as high as 130 degrees.
“Yesterday, it took a long time, but finally about 5, 6, 7 p.m. in the evening we did see some thunderstorms bubble up,” Monahan said. “Today, not as much. During the daylight hours, I think we’re going to stay mainly dry across North Georgia.”
Showers and storms will become 20% likely around midnight, he said. According to Channel 2, widespread rain does not return to the forecast until Friday, when it is 70% likely.
“We will see some changes by the end of the week,” Monahan said. “Not much rain between today and Thursday, just an isolated shower or storm chance. It will get a little wet on Friday.”
