If you’ve avoided the rain all week, there’s a good chance Thursday will be your day to get wet.
Scattered storms are 60% likely Thursday all across North Georgia, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. A cold front arriving this afternoon is likely to trigger storms and heavy downpours late into the evening, and with limited sunshine temperatures will be held back in the mid-80s, Monahan said.
It will start to look and feel much different around here come Friday, he said, as the cold front moves out, humidity drops and sunshine returns in full force.
“Rain trends are going in the right direction as we head through the next couple of days,” Monahan said. “There’s going to be some heavy rain today, less of it on Friday, and D-R-Y — it is going to be dry on Saturday. No rain to worry about, and the start of the weekend looks really good across North Georgia.”
Monahan said the changes will be noticeable Friday morning on the Northside, but rain and clouds will linger to the south for one more day. Friday’s rain chance is about 30% for neighborhoods south of Atlanta, according to Channel 2.
Everyone should get to enjoy the lower humidity and drier conditions by Friday night.
“Through the day Saturday, drier air, lower humidity,” Monahan said. “You’re going to get a few morning lows in the 60s and highs with the sunshine in the 80s for the afternoon.”
As for Thursday, Monahan expects storms to begin firing up between noon and 1 p.m. Some light rain is falling Thursday morning in the northern corners of the state, but most of the region is starting the day dry with temperatures in the 70s.
Atlanta’s projected high Thursday is 86 degrees, which is four degrees below average for this time of year.
Monahan said there will be heavy downpours around even after sunset, and light showers are possible Friday morning before the cold front clears Atlanta.
“Then drier air starts flowing in, and it’s going to feel a whole lot better around here by Friday afternoon and evening, and especially by Saturday morning,” he said.
