A soggy Sunday morning will set metro Atlanta residents up for a warm and breezy afternoon.

Before sunrise, a few storms will be in progress. You may hear some rumbles of thunder but no heavy showers are expected.

“We’ve got rain, we’ve got storms moving in as we go through our Saturday night. And into Sunday morning, a couple of heavy areas of rain are going to move on through North Georgia,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Rain will start picking up by about midnight as a cold front moves west to east over the state. By about 10 a.m., the cold front will be past Georgia and skies will begin opening up. We’ll finish the day with a mixture of sun and clouds.

With some moisture still left behind, some clouds will remain as the sun begins to rise. We’ll see temperatures in the low-60s for most of the day, even when the clouds disappear at about noon. Metro Atlanta should expect a low of 46 degrees and a high of 68.

No more rain is expected until Wednesday, when we may see some isolated storms. Monday will be slightly cooler than Sunday, with a high of 64 degrees.

If you want to get your holiday shopping done a bit earlier and while temperatures remain on the warmer end, the annual Piedmont Park Holiday Gift Market will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. With an emphasis on visual arts and gift giving, the event promotes local artists and provides residents with an opportunity to buy special gifts no store will offer.

But if you’re not yet ready to pick out gifts and are instead on the market for a tree, there a few locations around Atlanta. Little Rob’s Christmas Trees in Buckhead and NorthStar Christmas Trees in East Atlanta are just two of the many options.

There are other opportunities to celebrate the end of the year without it including Christmas. Zoo Atlanta is hosting IllumiNights at the Zoo: A Chinese Lantern Festival until Jan. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night. In partnership with Hanart Culture, the zoo will transform after dark into a stunning visual celebration of the natural world with more than 80 hand-painted lanterns placed throughout the park.
