Tropical air is expected to bring some showers to North Georgia this weekend, and Saturday is off to a cloudy start.
“We’re starting off with clouds and just a few scattered showers becoming a little more widespread toward the lunch hour,” Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.
Some of the rain, especially northeast of Atlanta, could bring heavy downpours, he said.
Some parts of metro Atlanta can expect to see heavy rain on Saturday, but these should be quick “splash-and-dash” showers, Burns said.
The chance of rain increases later this afternoon and into the early evening, according to the latest forecast.
While there is a 60% chance of rain on Saturday, temperatures in Atlanta should reach 85 degrees. Unfortunately, the wet weather is expected to continue through at least midweek.
The chance of rain drops to 40% for the second half of the weekend, but metro Atlanta residents should probably keep an umbrella handy if they’re heading outdoors on Sunday.

If weather permits, the Georgia Department of Transportation has a few roadwork projects planned over the weekend. Three right lanes on I-85 South and I-85 North between Ga. 400 and the Buford Highway ramps will be closed from 6 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday, GDOT said.
In Cobb County, road maintenance on I-285 between South Cobb Drive and Paces Ferry Road could cause delays starting at 9 a.m., GDOT said. The roadwork is expected to clear by 7 a.m. Sunday.
