[Update 5:15 p.m.] Isolated but heavy rains in several metro Atlanta counties have led the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning at 5 p.m.

The flood warning includes parts of Fulton, Clayton, DeKalb and Henry counties and will remain in effect until 10:45 p.m. Those areas have seen 2-3 inches of rain Monday afternoon, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. A temporary ground stop was issued at Hartsfield Jackson International Airport at 4:30 p.m. and was lifted at 5 p.m.

Original story: Most of June has been dry and hot for North Georgia, but the month is going out on a much wetter note.

There is a chance of rain in the forecast every day this week, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. And with more showers and clouds around, temperatures will be held back.

Atlanta’s projected high is 86 degrees Monday, Monahan said.

“I think we can all get behind that,” he said. “It’s going to feel a lot nicer temperature-wise this week, but we will have that rain to work with today.”

With higher humidity in place, Monday morning is off to a warm start in the upper 70s inside the Perimeter. While there have been some early showers in the northeast Georgia mountains, Monahan said metro Atlanta should be dry for the morning drive, although there could be some low cloud cover and fog around.

Widespread rain is possible this afternoon, especially for those north of I-20, he said. By early afternoon, Monahan is calling for a 60% chance of a shower or storm, with rain activity becoming more scattered closer to sunset.

More rain is in Tuesday’s forecast, according to Channel 2.

“It’s going to be a wetter end of the month of June,” Monahan said. “A cold front is moving in, that’s going to stall around the area and give us rain and storms today, tomorrow, Wednesday. Through most of the week, we’re going to see some chance of rain and storms.”

This weekend should also be wet with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast each day. Where it stays dry, Monahan expects temperatures to climb closer to 90 degrees. The rest of the rain-soaked region should stay in the lower to mid-80s all week, according to the latest forecast.

Atlanta's projected high Monday is 85 degrees with a 60% chance of a shower or storm.
