Friday should be the warmest day this week for Atlanta with an afternoon high of 83 degrees in the forecast.

That’s considered above-average for this time of year, but Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan is calling for some below-average temperatures this weekend. A cold front moving in Friday will be responsible for the cooler weather, but it won’t bring any rain, he said.

“It’s been a great week and we’re going to keep that going into the weekend,” Monahan said. “Just a few more clouds around for your Friday and Saturday.”

Despite the extra clouds, Monahan is expecting a mostly sunny sky this afternoon as temperatures rise. Friday morning is off to another cool start with temperatures in the 50s around metro Atlanta.

It should be a great night for high school football games all across metro Atlanta. Monahan is calling for temperatures in the upper 70s around kickoff and lower 70s by the time marching bands take the field at halftime.

The city should enjoy about 10 hours of sunshine both Friday and Saturday, and Monahan said Sunday “is going to be a really pretty day across North Georgia.” He’s expecting 11 hours of sunshine to end the weekend, as well as afternoon highs in the mid-70s.

“October is our driest month of the year. Fall is our driest season of the year, and we’re really living up to it over the next several days,” Monahan said. “That means good things for your weekend plans.”

Rain won’t stay away forever, but Monahan said the region still has time to enjoy the sunshine and dry conditions. All the way through Tuesday of next week, he said “we still have a good, long dry stretch in the forecast.”

“I do see signs — we really could actually use some rain — of some of that (is) possible by the time we hit Wednesday night and Thursday,” he said. “Until then it’s going to stay dry.”

Friday's projected high is 83 degrees, which should make it the warmest day this week.
