Storms and heavy rain continue to move through parts of Georgia Friday afternoon bringing tornado warnings for areas south of metro Atlanta.
Greene and Putnam counties are under a tornado warning until 4 p.m. The storms near Eatonton are occurring in a very saturated area which could lead to downed trees, Channel 2 meteorologists said. Flooding on area roads is also possible.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a flood warning for Big Creek near Alpharetta affecting Fulton and Forsyth Counties. The warning lasts through early Saturday morning.
A line of storms that resulted in three west Georgia counties being placed under a tornado warning before noon Friday had moved east by afternoon bringing severe weather to some middle Georgia areas.
Rain is expected to continue throughout the day, with isolated severe storms possible in much of north Georgia and temperatures in the mid-60s.
“Possibly dealing with some bouts of heavy rainfall. That could lead to some localized flooding but then also damaging wind gusts and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out,” said station Meteorologist Eboni Deon.
The rain is likely to wane this evening. Sunshine is expected to return on Sunday and continue into early next week.
