Sunshine and warm weather will dominate North Georgia’s forecast the next few days, making this the ideal weekend to enjoy time outdoors.

After a warm start in the upper 50s, Friday will kick things off with a projected high of 83 degrees in Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan. Nothing but sunshine is in Friday’s forecast, and while Monahan is expecting more clouds Saturday and Sunday, there is no chance of rain.

“You’ve got a blank check to do whatever you want outside,” he said. “It is going to be perfect weather.”

Monahan said Friday with feel like a late-spring day. He is expecting the city to warm up into the mid-60s by 10 a.m. before temperatures climb into the 80s this afternoon.

“We started the week cool,” he said. “We’re going to finish the week warm. Up above average later on today, and that warm weather is not going anywhere.”

If your Friday night plans take you downtown, prepare for extra traffic near State Farm Arena as the Hawks return home for Game 3 of their playoff series against Miami Heat. The game starts at 7 p.m., but drivers can expect congestion near the stadium through the evening rush hour and beyond.

According to Monahan, an area of high pressure stalled across the Southeast is responsible for the shift in temperatures. The system won’t allow for much cloud cover, keeping North Georgia dry and pushing temperatures about 10 degrees above average through the end of the weekend.

Highs in the 80s are forecast both Saturday and Sunday, according to Channel 2. Monahan said the nice weather will hold over into the start of next week, too.

“We’re staying warm,” he said of Monday’s forecast, which calls for a high of 85 degrees in Atlanta. “It’s a little more humid on Monday. By Tuesday, there is rain back in the forecast.”

Atlanta's projected high Friday is 83 degrees.
