Ready to put away summertime heat and humidity for crisp fall weather? Metro Atlanta will get halfway there Friday, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.
The humidity isn’t going anywhere, but temperatures are not expected to leave the 70s Friday as a cold front stalled across Middle Georgia keeps the city in the clouds. That front is also sending plenty of moisture this way, resulting in a 60% chance of a shower or storm by Friday afternoon, Monahan said.
Upper level disturbance moving in from the northwest this morning should give us more widespread rain/storms today -- along with lots of cloud cover.

“Where we get some breaks of sun we should get into the 80s,” he said. “Where it stays cloudy most of the day, we’re going to be in the upper 70s. Cooler-than-average temperatures pretty much all across the board.”
Atlanta is starting the day in the 70s, and Monahan said temperatures will not move much throughout the day. The city should top out at about 79 degrees.
There are some isolated showers falling during the morning drive, but Monahan said more rain is likely throughout the day.

“Take the umbrella with you at 9 a.m.,” he said. “Keep it close at lunchtime. Headed home from work and school later today, we’re going to have a chance for some showers and storms.”
Rain chances will remain elevated for Friday night football games, he said. Monahan is calling for a muggy night under the lights with temperatures in the upper 70s around kickoff time and mid-70s when most high school bands take the field at halftime.
Overall, Monahan said, Friday is going to be a “pretty gray” day.
“It’s going to be a little bit drier Saturday,” he said, putting Saturday’s rain chance at about 60%. “Still storms, but I think that’s going to be the slightly drier of the two weekend days.”
Atlanta will get back into the 80s Saturday with a projected high of 84, and Sunday will be slightly cooler at 81 degrees with a better chance of rain, according to the latest forecast. Monahan said the region is looking to dry out a bit by early next week.
