A couple of early morning crashes made a mess of things Thursday on I-85 in Gwinnett County.
Before dawn, a crash shut down the southbound lanes at Pleasantdale Road as authorities investigated. A second crash then occurred in the backups, shutting down all lanes but the high-occupancy travel lane at Pleasant Hill Road.
Both crashes cleared and the interstate reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m., but the damage to the Thursday morning drive was done. The trip from Ga. 316 to I-285 was just under an hour at 7 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Few details have been released about either crash. The wreck at Pleasantdale Road was first reported about 4 a.m. and involved a tractor-trailer, backing up southbound traffic all the way into Duluth. Motorists were being diverted off the interstate at Jimmy Carter Boulevard during the investigation.
The second crash, reported by the Traffic Center at about 6 a.m., involved three vehicles at Pleasant Hill Road as traffic backed up. One of those vehicles overturned.
No information about injuries was released.
