A motorcyclist was killed early Monday morning in a crash that shut down all southbound lanes of I-285 in DeKalb County for nearly three hours, officials confirmed.

The crash, which happened about 4 a.m. near Flat Shoals Road, and the ensuing investigation on the Eastside Perimeter proved to be a headache for DeKalb commuters during the morning rush.

When DeKalb police arrived on the scene, they found the motorcyclist dead from their injuries, according to police spokesperson Officer Elise Wells. Their identity has not been released.

Southbound lanes were closed from about 4:20 a.m. until shortly before 7 a.m.

During the shutdown, there was no access to I-285 from I-20, and southbound traffic was diverted off I-285 onto Glenwood Road.
