Four children and their bus driver were able to walk away after a day care bus collided with a vehicle and flipped on its side Thursday morning.

The children, between ages 5 and 11, were taken to hospitals with minor cuts and bruises after crashing on Flat Shoals Road near Battle Forrest Drive, according to DeKalb County police.

All were out of the bus by the time officers and medics responded shortly before 7 a.m.

The driver of the passenger car was also taken to a hospital with a minor injury, according to police and fire officials. That driver was cited for failure to maintain lane.

The crash scene was about a half-mile from the entrance to Flat Shoals Elementary School but involved a private day care vehicle, police said.
