A 3-year-old was among five people taken to a hospital Monday morning after a crash involving a tractor-trailer and 15 other vehicles on I-285, authorities said.

The child sustained “significant injuries” in the crash, which was reported shortly before 9 a.m. between the Washington Road and Camp Creek Parkway exits in East Point, according to city officials. Several of East Point’s fire crews responded to the wreck to assist the injured, whose conditions were not provided.

Multiple northbound lanes of I-285 were closed until the crash was moved to a right shoulder at 11 a.m.

East Point police and Georgia State Patrol troopers remained at the scene for several hours while investigating. The cause of the crash has not been determined, city fire spokeswoman Renita Shelton said in an email. No further details were immediately available.
