The number of job openings in Metro Atlanta dipped in October, but a lot of firms were still looking for employees and most of the hot hiring was in healthcare, according to Simply Hired.
There were 101,346 job openings during the month, according to numbers tallied by the company, an 11-year-old online jobs search engine.
That was 3.25 percent fewer than the month before, said Simply Hired.
The decline followed a national arc. Nationwide job listings fell 3.52 percent during the month, the second straight month of decline. Moreover, Atlanta joined other large metros: All 25 of the largest metro areas saw openings fall, Simply Hired.
The largest drops – more than percent – were in Sacramento and Denver.
But overall, the trend is still positive: job listings were 11 percent higher than at the start of the year.
According to the company, the top hiring company in the region Atlanta was WellStar Health System. The next four were consultants Deloitte, and three more healthcare organizations: Northside Hospital, Piedmont Healthcare and Emory Healthcare.
A national report from ADP showed job gains during the month of 181,000 in the private sector, down slightly from September. The ADP report is often seen as a clue to the official October numbers from the government, which are due out Friday.
The unemployment rate nationally was down to 5.1 percent in September, but job growth the past six months has been modest.
Georgia’s jobless rate is 5.8 percent. Metro Atlanta, which has provided the lion’s share of the state’s growth during the past year, has seen unemployment dip to 5.5 percent.
