North Georgia weather is playing “no tricks” Wednesday to darken Halloween celebrations, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Karen Minton said.

Most of metro Atlanta is in the upper 70s this afternoon, and temps should only drop to the mid-70s by 6 p.m., when costumed youngsters will start heading out. By 9 p.m., it will still be in the upper 60s, Minton said.

“Your trick-or-treat hours are going to be great,” Minton said.

The chance of rain remains nonexistent Wednesday night, but moisture is starting to increase ahead of a cold front Thursday, making it a little more humid, Minton said.

Thursday’s front is expected to bring widespread rain into North Georgia.

“Showers and storms will start to develop across the area (Thursday) as early as late morning and through the afternoon,” Minton said. “The greatest risk for the most severe weather really is over southwest Georgia.”

Some southwest metro Atlanta counties could have strong to damaging winds, she said.

While weather isn't affect metro Atlanta's roads, the Halloween rush is, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

The Traffic Center predicted that congestion would pick up around school dismissal time because many parents would head home early to help their kids get ready for Halloween. It looks like that has come to fruition.

In addition, construction in Midtown isn’t helping.

A right lane of Peachtree Street northbound has been blocked for road work, the Traffic Center reported. Nearby, another right lane of Peachtree Street northbound is blocked by construction near Peachtree Avenue and Pharr Road.
