A cluster of showers has moved into the metro area, making roads slick and leading to several wrecks that are slowing everything down during the evening commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
Nearly every metro Atlanta county has some major wreck to deal with, so let’s run down the list.
In Clayton County, two right westbound lanes of I-285 are blocked just east of Riverdale Road. Delays stretch back to Jonesboro Road.
In Fulton County, the ramp from I-20 East to I-285 is closed because of a wreck involving a tractor-trailer. Delays stretch back to Six Flags.
In Cobb County, I-75 South previously had two left lanes blocked at Chastain Road by a wreck, the Traffic Center reported. The crash has been cleared, but delays linger.
In Henry County, a previous wreck on the shoulder of I-75 South at Hudson Bridge Road caused delays back to I-675, but traffic is recovering.
Rain in North Georgia is expected to quiet down through the evening, though spotty showers are possible beyond the evening drive, Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.
Temperatures are expected to warm to the high 60s, but colder temps are only a few days away. More off-and-on rain showers are expected Thursday and Friday.
“That front will continue to push northward as a warm front, and high pressure is going to build in (Thursday),” Minton said. “That’s going to set the stage for more rain.”
Thursday has a 40 percent of showers, while Friday’s rain chance is 70 percent. By Saturday, another cold front is expected to move into the state and knock out the rain.
Atlanta should see temperatures in the upper 30s Sunday morning, meaning the far northern counties could experience freezing temperatures, according to Channel 2. By the middle of next week, Atlanta is expected to get its first freeze of the season.
