Temps are in the 80s now, but Atlanta could reach the 90s before the week is over, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“A lot of sunshine today,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

It’s currently 82 degrees in Atlanta. The forecast high is 83, which is 5 degrees higher than the average for this time of year.

According to the latest forecast, Atlanta could see highs of 90 degrees Saturday and 89 degrees Sunday.

Much of the morning has been dry, but Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said said “(it may be) a different story for the afternoon commute.”

Further complicating the ride home is work on the Courtland Street bridge, which closed Monday.

The 111-year-old downtown Atlanta bridge is being replaced between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Gilmer Street near Georgia State University and the Georgia Capitol. It’s expected to be closed through October, the Georgia Department of Transportation said.

“You may have a few showers around Atlanta into the northeast Georgia mountains,” Minton said. “While they will be widely scattered, there could also be an isolated storm.”

Except for Wednesday, there is a 20 percent chance of isolated rain each day this week, according to Channel 2.

“A weather disturbance nearby, combined with the heat of the day and increasing moisture, could produce a few showers this afternoon,” Minton said.
