The sun has set in Atlanta for the last time this decade.
However, those ringing in the new year still have plenty of time to get ready for the midnight celebration.
With no rain in the forecast, chilly temperatures are the only thing people need to take into account before heading outside Tuesday night, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
“Temperatures will fall through the 40s until we ring in the new year at 40 degrees under a clear sky,” he said.
After an unseasonable high over the weekend, the chilly weather is closer to the norm for this time of year, according to Channel 2. A slight breeze also means it feels a littler colder outside, Nitz said, but the wind will die down by midnight, he said.
“Temperatures are trending downward, but we are actually getting back to more seasonal levels,” Channel 2 meteorologist Eboni Deon said.
Traffic isn’t too bad Tuesday afternoon, but this morning was a different story.
Cheshire Bridge Road was shut down in both directions between I-85 and Buford Highway due to a deadly double shooting investigation in northeast Atlanta.

Passion 2020, a Christian-based gathering of young adults typically ranging in age from 18 to 25, could lead to jams Tuesday night around Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Once the calendar flips to 2020, Georgia’s weather will begin to change, albeit slightly.
“We'll go from a clear blue sky in the morning to a mostly sunny sky in the afternoon,” Nitz said. “It's a subtle change ahead of a big change Thursday and Friday.”
The real weather shift comes Thursday when widespread rain begins to move into North Georgia, which will only increase Friday due to a cold front.
A second cold front Saturday will also lower temperatures, leading to some potential winter weather for the North Georgia mountains, Nitz said.
