[8:26 p.m.]: The water main has been repaired at the intersection of 10th and Tumlin streets, according to the City of Atlanta Department of Watershed Management.
UPDATE [6:25 p.m.]: A water main break has blocked the intersection of 10th and Tumlin streets, Georgia Tech police said in a tweet. The department said there is "a lot of water" resulting from the break, and the city of Atlanta is en route to begin repairs.
It’s unclear how long the intersection will be shut down.
ORIGINAL STORY: The city has warmed to 68 degrees just as traffic also hits its peak Tuesday.
DeKalb County is being hit the hardest during the evening commute, with incidents slowing I-85 North and I-285, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
All I-85 North lanes have reopened after a crash near Pleasantdale Road, but delays linger back to the Perimeter, the Traffic Center reported.
A vehicle fire that briefly blocked all inner loop lanes at Memorial Drive has been cleared, but the interstate remains jammed back to Ga. 400, according to the Traffic Center.
The other major problem area is on Ga. 400 in Alpharetta, where two northbound lanes are blocked at Haynes Bridge Road after a crash, the Traffic Center reported.
It may be in the upper 60s in Atlanta and Wednesday should be even warmer with a high of 70 degrees, but North Georgia is looking down the barrel of a 40-degree temperature drop over the next couple of days.
By Saturday, those numbers are expected to slide all the way to 33 degrees.
And that’s not the end of the slide, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. A much colder week is coming.
“By the time we hit next week, we're going to see some lows in the teens and 20s,” he said.
The next shot of cold air is expected with an approaching cold front that will bring more rain to end the work week, he said. But the coldest air of the season is still building well to the north of the state and will start to filter in next week.
“That is the start of a cold weather pattern that will take us through the middle of November,” Monahan said.
Monahan said it will be slightly warmer Wednesday afternoon before the plunge in temps, but it is typical of fall to see big swings like that.
More rain could accompany the much lower temperatures. Thursday and Friday have a 40% and 30% chance of some showers, respectively.
“The possibility of a half-inch or more of rain (is) coming up Thursday night into Friday,” he said.
