If low temperatures earlier in the week made you question what season it is, Thursday is here to set the record straight that it is spring.

The day is going to be a warm one, according to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan.

“It’ll be a good day to get outside,” he said. “Today, tomorrow, all the way through the weekend.”

Temperatures are already in the 60s, which is a noticeably warmer start than earlier this week when metro Atlanta woke up to temps in the 30s and 40s, Monahan said. Things will heat up even further as the day progresses, according to Channel 2. The projected high in Atlanta is 82 degrees.

Though it will be partly cloudy, there will be no shortage of sunshine and chances of precipitation are low, the news station reported.

Monahan said the weekend will feel more like summer with projected highs in the upper 80s on both Saturday and Sunday.

“It should be some of our warmest temperatures of the year,” he said.

Monahan is expecting the dry trend to continue into the weekend, with rain chances below 20% through Sunday.

The next chance of widespread rain in Georgia is Monday, when a storm system off the east coast could bring wet weather, he said.

There are no major delays on metro Atlanta interstates Thursday morning, despite a few early crashes, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

If traffic trends from the past week are any indication, volume should remain light throughout the day, the Traffic Center reported. There have been significantly fewer drivers on the roads since the coronavirus shut down Georgia.

Since the state reopened May 1, volume has only increased by about 10%, according to the Traffic Center. Congestion has not yet returned to Atlanta’s interstate system.
