Metro Atlanta residents will wake up Friday morning to the coolest June temperatures since 2012, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
Friday’s temperatures are expected to drop to the high 50s, the first time that’s happened in the month of June since 2012.
Thursday morning started out in the 60s, about 5 degrees below Wednesday’s start, according to Channel 2, but Friday will be even chillier.
The reason for the change? A cold front is moving through the state, causing temperatures to drop.
Despite the brisk morning temperatures, Friday afternoon should warm up to the 80s just in time for a sunny weekend.
“Lots of sunshine through the day tomorrow,” Nitz said. “Low humidity, a slightly cool start to what’s going to be an absolutely gorgeous day.”
Gone are the clouds and wet weather from the last couple of days, Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
“You don’t get many days like this in the middle of June, just before summertime,” he said, “but it’s going to be a beautiful day today across North Georgia ... We've got dry air, we've got a clear sky, it is going to be a chilly start tomorrow morning across North Georgia, with some 40s possible in the mountains.”
The dry conditions are forecast to stretch into Saturday.
“Great weather for whatever you've got to get done outside,” Monahan said. “Maybe you've been putting off the yard work, mowing the lawn. We’ve got great weather through the weekend, and by Sunday a chance of rain returns.”
A couple of spots could reach 90 degrees by the end of the weekend, he said.
