A mostly sunny and warm afternoon is ahead for metro Atlanta.
Temperatures were 70 degrees in Atlanta, 71 in Blairsville and 72 in Griffin just after 2 p.m.
They are expected to reach a high of 76 degrees by 4 p.m. in Atlanta — well above the average high of 70 degrees this time of year, according to Channel 2 Action News.
By 9 p.m., clouds will start to move into the area.
“Those clouds will be increasing a bit as we head through the evening, and in particular overnight and tomorrow morning,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
A line of showers will try to creep into North Georgia about 11 a.m. Thursday. But that won’t mean more than brief isolated sprinkles or light showers, Nitz said.
Skies will clear about 8 p.m.
“And by this weekend, we’re going to be up near record high territory,” Nitz said.
Temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees Friday and 83 degrees Saturday and Sunday. For Sunday, that would match a record high set in 1998.
