After a bright and sunny Saturday, a few more clouds are expected to move into North Georgia for the second half of the weekend.

While showers are moving into some areas south of the city,  metro Atlanta should remain relatively dry during the day, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

“These will be light, kind of spotty showers during the day,” he said. “Do not cancel any of your plans. Just be aware that there may be a little bit of light rain around on Sunday afternoon.”

It will be a little chilly in the morning, so those with early plans may want to pack a light jacket just in case.

By the afternoon, the temperature in Atlanta should warm up to the mid-50s, Monahan said.

Things change about 8 p.m., however, as spotty showers make their way across the state. The wet weather is expected to linger until Tuesday, dumping even more rain on the already saturated region.

“As we head into Monday and Tuesday, the rain starts to add back up,” Monahan said. “We do not need more heavy rain, (but) we’re going to see more of it, especially on Tuesday.”

An additional 2 inches of rainfall are possible in some areas, he said.

As for traffic, Cobb County drivers could run into some daytime delays as Georgia Department of Transportation crews close parts of South Cobb Drive for road work.

The lane closures will occur between Austell Road and Cobb Parkway, authorities said.
