The widespread rain that fell across metro Atlanta earlier Friday is over, but don’t store your rain gear yet, according to Channel 2 Action News.

“They are very few and very far between,” Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns said of the rain.

Entering Friday, parts of the metro area had gotten as much as 2 inches of rain. By the end of the day, another inch could be added to that total, according to the news station.

Spotty showers will pop up between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., according to Channel 2. Rain is expected to move out of the area by midnight.

The wet weather arrived as travelers hit the roads and the air for the extended Fourth of July weekend.

Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz has your early Friday evening weather forecast.

Showers are expected to die down a bit over the weekend. Rain chances are expected to drop to 40 percent Saturday and Sunday, Channel 2 reported.

Currently, the temperature is 81 degrees in Atlanta, passing the expected high of 80.

The average high for this time of year is 89, Channel 2 reported.
