Wet, dreary after remnants of Harvey dump rain on Atlanta

Remnants of Tropical Depression Harvey dumped heavy rain on metro Atlanta on Thursday and more wet weather is in the forecast.

Harvey has already led to 31 deaths, devastating flooding in Texas and a rainfall record.

And while crews continue to rescue victims of Harvey, Hurricane Irma is strengthening in the Atlantic and could become a Category 4 hurricane. Its path toward land is not yet clear.

Heavy rain has mostly moved out of the metro area, but showers are still possible through the evening, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

Also, a wind advisory went into effect at 8 p.m. for parts of North Georgia.

Metro Atlanta could get between 1 and 2 inches more of rain before it tapers off Friday, Nitz said.

“We’ll have breaks and lulls from time to time as well,” he said.

But that rain is expected to clear in time for Saturday’s Georgia Bulldogs football season opener in Athens against Appalachian State.

The rest of the weekend is expected to stay dry and clear with temps in the low 80s.

Currently, the temperature is 78 degrees in Atlanta.
