It’s dry now, but rain is expected later this evening, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Light, misty showers are expected around 10 p.m. Monday and temperatures should drop into the 40s, Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Currently, the temperature is 54 degrees in Atlanta, which reached a high of 62 early Monday. The average high for this time of year is 56.

The city should reach its projected high — 53 degrees — at 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to Channel 2.

Then comes the cold.

“It’s going to be a cold, raw day tomorrow,” Burns said. “Temperatures are going to stay in the 40s through much of the day with intermittent mist and drizzle.”

And precipitation does not completely disappear from the forecast until next week, the news station reported.

Cherokee, Floyd and Gordon counties are under a flood warning until further notice, according to the National Weather Service.  A warning indicates flooding is happening. A watch means conditions are favorable for flooding.

The Etowah River near east Canton was at 18.5 feet and rising at 10 a.m. Monday. The flood stage is 17 feet, the NWS reported.

“High pressure brings east winds Tuesday, resulting in cooler temps and more clouds and drizzle,” Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

That is not, however, indicative of a trend, Channel 2 reported.

Above-average temperatures are expected most of the month, and highs are forecast to hit the 70s Thursday and Friday.
