You’re in for a wet week.
Scattered showers peppered the metro area for the early part of the morning and late afternoon Tuesday, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Metro Atlantans can expect a wet evening commute, with rain tapering off about 9 p.m.
Just before noon, heavy rain moved through Buckhead, Midtown and downtown. Parts of Cobb, Cherokee, Bartow and Paulding counties were also under significant weather advisories during the early afternoon.
Rain returned just before 5 p.m. but was not severe, Channel 2 reported. However, there was a chance of lightning strikes.
Showers in Clayton County halted travel at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Flights remain delayed between 15 and 30 minutes, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. A gate hold and taxi delays are also in place.
Earlier, lightning struck the roof of two homes, causing them to catch fire, Channel 2 reported.
On Sandpoint Drive in Cobb County, lightning struck a woman’s roof while she was inside. She was able to escape and rescue her cats and dogs, Channel 2 reported. Just a few miles away, firefighters responded to a fire at a home on Heath Hollow Lane.
No one was injured in either incident.
The showers are expected to stick around through Sunday, according to Channel 2. Temperatures should remain in the mid-80s through the week.
Currently, the temperature is 70 degrees in Atlanta and is expected to dip into the mid-60s this evening as rain chances decrease.
