Those who find the temperatures too cold to take Monday morning need only wait a few days.

Summertime heat is in the forecast for the first weekend of May, according to Channel 2 Action News. It is a far cry from lows in the 30s and 40s Monday morning, about 10 to 15 degrees below average for a typical late April day.

“It is possible some of us will be near 90 by Sunday,” Channel 2 meteorologist Brian Monahan said. “Not this morning. We’re a long way away from that.”

Like a typical late April day, however, it won’t stay chilly long. Monahan said temperatures are headed for the 60s and 70s Monday afternoon under a mostly sunny sky.

Atlanta’s projected high is 72 degrees.

“It’s good day to get outside,” he said. “If there is some yard work in your plans later on this afternoon,  today and tomorrow looks good. Wednesday, not so good.”

Rain and storms are coming in for the middle of the week, he said. Wednesday is the only rainy day in the forecast for an otherwise dry and sunny week, according to Channel 2.

Monahan said North Georgia can expect to see a few more clouds Tuesday before the wet weather arrives Wednesday. The risks will be similar to Saturday’s storms that moved through the mountains, he said.

“An isolated strong or severe storm is possible as we head through Wednesday,” Monahan said. “The main risks will be hail and strong wind gusts, and lightning as well.”

The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center considers most of North Georgia to be at a Level 1 risk for severe weather, which is the lowest level out of five.

Temperatures should stay about average this week with morning lows in the 50s and afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s, according to Channel 2. Thursday will be slightly cooler with a projected high of 68.

According to the latest forecast, metro Atlanta should warm into the 80s Saturday before reaching a projected high of 88 degrees Sunday.
