MONDAY’S WEATHER-TRAFFIC: Atlanta to heat up with slight chance of rain

Metro Atlanta is headed for the 90s Monday with little in the way of afternoon rain to help cool things off, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Any showers and storms that develop will be isolated, Channel 2 meteorologist Brad Nitz said. Those that get stuck underneath one of them could be in for a brief downpour, however.

“It will be one of the days you may want to head to a pool to cool off,” Nitz said.

Monday could be the hottest day of the year so far if Atlanta hits its projected high of 91 degrees, according to Channel 2. Temperatures are already elevated Monday morning in the low 70s.

“In the hours ahead, we'll be partly cloudy this morning,” Nitz said. “Isolated showers and storms this afternoon, that’s about it. The coverage is certainly very limited today. We'll put your rain chance just at 30%.”

Nitz said it will stay warm and dry overnight before another warm morning Tuesday. There is a much better chance of rain Tuesday, kicking off a change in the weather pattern.

“This week is going to be wet and stormy every afternoon  and evening beginning tomorrow,” Nitz said.

The increased rain coverage will help North Georgia to cool off slightly. High temperatures fall back into the 80s as rain chances come up to 60% and 70%, according to Channel 2.

With dry pavement and light volume, there are no early delays on the metro Atlanta interstate system Monday morning, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

No major crashes have been reported as of 6 a.m.

“Right now, we’re doing fine headed in and out of downtown,” traffic reporter Mark Arum said.
