Fall starts Friday, but apparently summer isn’t ready to loosen its grip on metro Atlanta.

“It’s going to be pretty mild across North Georgia,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said of the first days of fall.

Currently, the temperature is 78 degrees in Atlanta after reaching a high of 88. The average high for this time of year is 82.

Last year, the metro area experienced 14 days in the 90s in September. So far this year, there have been none.

Hurricane Jose, situated in the Atlantic Ocean, is bringing North Georgia dry air, Channel 2 reported.

“It looks like a day in mid-August,” Channel 2 Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Highs are expected to reach 87 Tuesday and Wednesday, 86 Thursday and 84 Friday.

After some patchy morning fog Tuesday morning, metro Atlanta can expect clouds to arrive in the afternoon. There is a chance of an afternoon shower, Burns said, but most of the rain is forecast for the mountains.
