HURRICANE MITCH, 1998: Hurricane Mitch, which struck Central America in 1998, is considered one of the deadliest hurricanes in history, causing over 11,000 fatalities. In addition, over 3 million people were left homeless, and the storm caused over $5 billion in damages.
