The heavy rain that fell Sunday morning is expected to last a few days, Channel 2 Action News meteorologists say.
At least, spotty showers and storms are expected to come and go, meteorologist Brian Monahan said.
About an inch of rain an hour fell on Midtown earlier Sunday morning and at one point a half-inch of rain fell in about 15 minutes, Monahan said.
“Waves of showers and storms, that’s what we’re tracking now,” Monahan said Sunday afternoon.
While the wet weather is great for cooling temperatures and providing relief from the heat, a flash flood watch is in effect through Sunday evening in the North Georgia mountains.
The current temperature is 80 degrees in Atlanta.
The humidity is muggy, Monahan said. That’s expected to stick around until Thursday, when dryer air is expected.
“It’s going to be wet at least through Wednesday night,” Monahan said.
