A front that will arrive Thursday night and bring the coldest air since February is already starting to reach metro Atlanta, according to Channel 2 Action News.

That incoming front will usher in cold, arctic air to all of north Georgia beginning tonight and will last into the weekend, Chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said.

Wind Thursday is expected to pick up with gusts between 20 to 25 mph.

Temperatures about 9:15 p.m. were 39 degrees in Atlanta, 33 in Blairsville and 40 in Griffin.

"In fact, by 8 o'clock tonight, we're feeling like freezing already here in Atlanta," Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said.

By midnight, it will feel like temps dropped to the 20s, thanks to increasing winds that could reach 25 mph.

“So be prepared for the cold at hand,” Minton said.

A low of 26 degrees is expected Friday morning in metro Atlanta. However, the wind chill will make it feel like 18 degrees.

The next chance of rain comes Monday when temperatures will be above freezing.

Meteorologist Brad Nitz has the details of the forecast

“Inside and outside the Perimeter, we'll all be shivering (Friday)," Minton said. "Make sure that your pets are able to stay in a warm place."
