In addition to a coat to keep you warm from these cold temperatures, you’re going to need an umbrella to keep you dry from the rain.
The rest of metro Atlanta can expect more of the same through the afternoon and evening before showers become more widespread by 11 p.m., Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
In the North Georgia mountains, watch out for winter weather.
“And in a few spots, we’ll see that change over to a little rain/snow mix or some light snow showers in parts of the North Georgia mountains overnight tonight and very early (Tuesday) morning,” Nitz said.
Current temps are 40 degrees in Atlanta, 41 in Blairsville and 41 in Griffin.
“We haven’t been this cold since January,” meteorologist Karen Minton said.
The high of the day — 43 degrees — will feel more like 39 degrees, she said. The average high for this time of year is 64, Channel 2 reported.
“You just wait,” Minton said. “It’s really going to get cold later this week.”
She said a cold blast could usher in “the longest streak of below normal temperatures this winter.”
Atlanta is expected to see lows of 36 degrees Tuesday, 28 on Wednesday and 27 on Thursday.
The good news for allergy sufferers is that cold temperatures are keeping pollen levels down. The pollen count fell from 251 particles per cubic meter of air Friday to 17 Monday, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma.
Last year’s season high was 4,107 particles per cubic meter of air, and the pollen count this time last year was 132.
