Temperatures on Wednesday fell just shy of the 90 degrees initially predicted.

Atlanta reached 89 degrees and can expect to remain in the 80s through 9 p.m., Channel 2 Action News reported.

The current temperature is 86 degrees.

And don’t expect signs of fall anytime soon. Above-average temps are here through the weekend, Channel 2 reported. Atlanta could see 88 Thursday and 85 Friday for the first day of autumn.

There is a 20 percent chance of rain Thursday, when showers should enter the metro area by the afternoon.

While things were calm locally, Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico with Category 4 strength and maximum sustained winds of 155 mph.
