Wunderland' impresses model train lovers in Hamburg

IF YOU happen to visit Hamburg, Germany, stop in at Miniatur Wunderland, an 8-mile model train set that's turning into a huge tourist attraction. This section represents the Swiss Alps.

MINIATUR WUNDERLAND is the creation of two brothers, Frederik and Gerrit Braun, who have had a lifelong passion for toy trains.

... THE NEON lights of Las Vegas appear at left. One day in the Wunderland takes 15 minutes to lapse.

WUNDERLAND OCCUPIES three floors in an old warehouse in northern Germany. New phases are already under construction.

EMPLOYEES MAN the control center that sends trains and vehicles through towns and fields via remote control. Push-button actions allow visitors to control some of Wunderland's movements too.

ONLOOKERS TAKE in a railroad scene. About 30 accidents involving derailed trains happen every day, and one of the museum's 180 employees has to make repairs.

CROWDS ENJOY the scenery of the miniature town of Hamburg.
