The owners of the Union Point Art Gallery and Studio hope to revitalize Union Point, GA with art and culture from regional artists.

Lee Nelson and his wife, Anne Jenkins, opened the 2,000-square-foot Union Point Art Gallery and Studio. He conducts Entrepreneurial Artist workshops to help artists run their art like a business. He's also director of the Union Point Downtown Development Authority, which is overseeing the town's revitalization.

Union Point is about 80 miles east of Atlanta. Work by the late Carol Connely of Atlanta is one of the better known artists in the gallery's "Celebrate Women" exhibit, which opens June 6 through June 30th.

David Phillips, a retired middle school teacher from Watkinsville, carves folk-art fish from salvaged wood at Genuine Georgia Artisan Market in Greensboro.

Monica Jones, from Oglethorpe County, creates glazed pottery jugs and vases with distinctive arm-and-hand handles.

Genuine Georgia Artisan Market, which opened five years ago, sells high-quality pottery, glass, fiber, wood and metal art, musical instruments, woven rugs, jewelry, candles, furniture, baskets, books, jellies, jam and other products. It's located about seven miles west of Union Point.
