FIRE ISLAND is one of Long Island's south shore outer barrier islands. It has secluded wilderness areas, which host diverse ecosystems of native and migrating wildlife, plants and people. It is a natural paradise for those living in stressful Manhattan.

KEY WEST, Fla. tourists and locals unwind at the La-te-da resort. With its warm climate, colorful coral reef, and an off-beat laid-back atmosphere, this tropical island is a gay-friendly mecca for writers and artists, celebrities and people who just want to get away from it all.

ASPEN, COLO. is seen with mountains looming in the background. Aspen has something for everyone -- challenging ski slopes, wine tastings, opera, and hot dog carts and haute cuisine. The city hosts an annual Aspen Gay Ski week.
