Royal Caribbean is putting an arsenal of pricey bells and whistles on its private Bahamas island CocoCay.
The $200 million upgrade is the first of what the line hopes to be many private destination upgrades that it’s calling the Perfect Day Island Collection.
“When you name a place Perfect Day, you’re making a big, bold claim, but it’s one we’re going to deliver on,” said Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Michael Bayley. “Once Perfect Day at CocoCay is complete, it will be unlike anything else in the world.”
Royal Caribbean announced a $200 million upgrade to CocoCay as part of its Perfect Day Island Collection. The private island will get a 13-slide water park including the tallest slide in North America and wave pool. Also at the resort will be the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean, zip line, helium balloon and more.
The upgrades include the creation of a 13-slide water park that also features the largest wave pool in the Caribbean, according to the cruise line.
One of those slides will be the tallest in North America, the Daredevil’s Peak at 135 feet. In comparison, Disney’s Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach is 120 feet tall and Volcano Bay’s tallest slide, Ko’okiri Body Plunge, is 125 feet tall.
Also on the island will be a helium balloon that rises to 450 feet, a 1,600-foot-long zip line featuring a splash landing in the harbor, a new set of overwater cabanas and the largest freshwater pool in the Caribbean.
The resort will be segmented into seven areas including a colorful Willy Wonka-esque welcome area.
On Chill Island, visitors can partake of adventures such as wave runners, snorkeling and boat tours alongside the island’s largest dining venue. On South Beach, more sportive activities include beachside volleyball, basketball and soccer, glass-bottom kayaking, paddle boarding and Zorbs, in which riders enter giant inflatable balls.
The exclusive Coco Beach Club, the Bahamas will have its only overwater cabanas with overwater hammocks, slides and personal attendants. The area has other beachside cabanas and daybeds alongside an infinity pool and a higher-end Mediterranean dining.
The rollout of all the features will take place starting with the completion of the pier in September 2018 with most of the rest of the features in place by spring 2019. Coco Beach Club is slated to be completed by November 2019.
The CocoCay is the first of what the line hopes will be many redesigned destinations, elsewhere in the Caribbean as well as in Asia and Australia.
“We have not finalized all of these future projects,” Bayley said. “We’ve secured land in different locations, but we’re still looking at the process of what Perfect Day will mean for guests in those destinations.”
