A perfect 10: Ellis Hotel has floor for women-only

Atlanta's Ellis Hotel reserves the 10th Floor for women-only.

The 16-story hotel at Ellis and Peachtree streets downtown sat empty for years before getting a $26.8 million renovation.

A golden chandelier lights the stairway of the Ellis Hotel at the corner of Ellis and Peachtree streets. The hotel was formerly the Winecoff, site of the nation's worst hotel fire in 1946.

A standard room with double beds doesn't come with all the pomp found in the women's rooms.

A specially coded room key card is required to access the 10th floor. The amenity is designed for women business travelers to heighten their sense of safety.

Ladies' rooms are largely identical to those in the rest of the hotel with a few critical tweaks for female guests.

In addition to comfy robes, the rooms come with a small bag of flaw-concealing (and Atlanta-born) Spanx footless pantyhose.

Along with the de rigueur blow dryer, bathrooms are equipped with curling irons and flat irons.

Rooms on the 10th floor are stocked with a different, more feminine-smelling lineup of toiletries, including bubble bath.

The East Street Bar inside the Ellis is open to both male and female guests.

The Ellis opened in mid-October, but the building's place in Atlanta history stretches back nearly a century. Opened in 1913 as the elegant Winecoff Hotel, it was the site of the nation's deadliest hotel fire when 119 people died there in 1946.
